STARTERS: Prez
Tony opened his final meeting. We all
sang God Bless America, Steve Delk (the mystery member) led the pledge and
Dano gave the blessing. GUESTS: Sergeant-at-Arms Pro Tem Rick Hankus introduced our guests. Jean brought the "Godfather" of the Lombardo family, Tony Sr., Rick K brought friend Monte Whaley, Larry and Rick brought Monique Noriega (puppet workshop director), and Larry brought Maggie Moir. BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES: Judy Garland (9/24), Larry Jackson (9/27), Brad Baker (9/28) and Bruce Bogart (9/29). Only Larry was present, so we sang. You other guys missed it! DRINK

THANKS: We received thanks from the Hermosa Valley PTO for
contribution to 8th Grade Grad Night and an article highlighting our
contribution to Digital Divas. GOVERNOR'S DISTINGUISHED CLUB: Past Lt. Gov. Dick McCurdy presented the club with a banner patch from Governor James "Greg" Mason for Sam's year. Tony accepted the honor. |
BADGES: Deborah Cramer finally got her badge!!! Joanne Kenoff is also now officially badged! Tony, Sr. was here!

PROGRAM: Giancarlo Cetrula from the Redondo Beach SEA Laboratory was our speaker today. SEA Lab is a program of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. They have internships for young adults, educational programs for school children, animal rescue and rehabilitation programs (rescued animals are used for educational programs), and community service projects. They have approximately 50,000 visitors a year. They are currently funded primarily by Southern California Edison, but will be seeking members, sponsors, grants, etc. to fund them after the SCE funds end. All of their programs are currently free. They rescue over 2000 animals a year. They have volunteer programs for all ages. General Info: 318-7438; Volunteer Opportunities: 318-7458. SPECIAL AIMS COMMITTEE - Earl reported that they are looking for a "Skeletal Traction Device" - If you know of one that could be donated, contact Earl. HAPPY/SAD: Larry happy to be here with Maggie, Jeannie very happy to see everyone; Becca happy to be here, sad will miss Installation (going to New York); Anna happy she sold 20 tickets to Women's Club Pancake Breakfast today; Greg W happy re year as VP and looking forward to Program Chair and Prez-Elect, also happy re Forever Plaid last night with Dick McC; Jean happy re Tony, Sr. here today to see Tony, Jr. conduct a meeting - "he does a very good job" (thanks, Mom); Bob happy re impressive turnout today; Howiee happy he's not a Hawthorne Kiwanian cuz their fines are $5 or $10, sad someone stole a hose from his house; Earl happy to see so many show up today - reminded everyone to pay dues before the end of this month!; Paul happy to be here, sorry for being late; Dano happy to be here, he paid dearly for cell phone calls; Cary happy re Forever Plaid last night and seeing so many Kiwanians there; Dally happy his wife, daughter & granddaughter are going to Florida (also told another bad joke); Maggie happy re possible film project coming to Hermosa; Carol happy for successful picnic and returning members; Paul happy re Sunday movie on beach; Cathy happy re Tony's great year as President; Rick K happy to have served as VP during Tony's term, happy re guests, happy re help for installation, and happy his sponsor Jean was here; Tony happy for his year as President, Kiwanis friends & community service, sad that the year is over. |

RAFFLE: Deborah had the winning ticket but drew the Queen of Clubs. Daily was $50, pot was $235 with 11 cards left. FINK: Next week is #942 (not Larry??). |
