PROGRAM: New Program Chairman Greg Wyatt introduced the speaker Rev. Bagavan Friend who was the moving force behind the Redondo Beach Memorial Day Parade. Rev. Friend said events of 9/11 made him think the city needed a shot of patriotism. He plans to do it again next year. He spoke about how he wanted to be a Marine when he was a youngster, then got caught up in the anti-war/communism movement in the 60's and 70's. He has spent the years since trying to "atone" for some of his ideas and actions at that time. Based on his experience with the communist/socialist cadres, he warned that the dragon is not dead. It is alive and well in China as well as in the United States. He said that communists agitate, want chaos, because that's how they get power. He believes they are still actively recruiting young people in our schools. He suggested that maintaining the importance of family, friends, country and god (of whatever religion) in our lives is necessary and the antithesis of what communism teaches (e.g. children belong to the State, Religions must be kept out of sight) |
