STARTERS: Prez Rick Koenig opened the meeting in the tent at the tree lot.  We sang God Bless American a capella and pledged allegiance to the flag at the Veteran's Memorial.

BLESSING OF THE TREES:  Reverend Paul Lawson combined the invocation with the blessing of the trees.  He asked for blessings on the workers and the families that buy our trees.  Since the trees won't be delivered until Friday, Paul Amarillas and Dano stood in for the trees.

GUESTS: Today's guests were Rick's friends Rick Borders and Andrew Moore, Joe's wife Marie and Larry's significant other Maggie.  Newly installed HB City Councilmember Pete Tucker also came by to sign up to work the tree lot.  Our about to be installed new members Maria Mokay, Keith Watts, Mike Miller and Pat Love were also here today. There was a surprise visit from the Christmas Chicken as well.

BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES:  Judi McEachen was celebrating her birthday in Arizona (11/27), so we owe her a song.

OTHER UPCOMING PROGRAMS:

HEALTH UPDATE:  Rick reported that Ann's feeling better after her recent radiation therapy.  She claims to miss us almost as much as we miss her.  He also reported that he spoke to Jim who says he misses us too, although he manages to keep his spirits up. Keep both of these wonderful Kiwanians in your prayers and let them know we are thinking about them.

The Blessing:    The "Tree":                The Lesson:

TREE LOT UPDATE: Paul and Yvonne gave the Update and Tree Lessons.  Delivery of the trees has been slightly delayed.  They should be here early Friday morning.  They were loaded yesterday and come directly from the grower in Oregon and Washington State.  We are told they are beautiful this year as they have had lots of rain and water in the Northwest.  We will have about 400 trees delivered Friday.  There will be three more shipments later in December.  This helps assure the freshest trees.  We have two types - Noble Firs and Douglas Firs.  The trees are kept iced, misted or in water from the time they are cut.

TREE LOT 101 (CONTINUED)

·         We will be able to accept credit cards this year for the first time (visa and master card).

·         We give a 10% discount to Kiwanians (our club or other clubs).

·         Tree prices have not gone up this year.

 TREE LOT 101:

·         The tree lot is open from 10am to 10pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.

·         Bruno is back along with his crew to do the heavy hauling of trees, putting them on stands, getting them onto the lot, et

·         Kiwanians meet and greet the customers, and sometimes run the cash register.  We tell them we are Kiwanians, the proceeds go to local charitable causes, we are all volunteers.  If we are strong enough we help bring the trees to the front of the lot and tie them on the cars.  We can get help for this part from the Key Club and Builders Club kids and from the paid helpers.

·         We deliver ($20 in immediate vicinity, more per a schedule for father away).

·         We can fireproof (required for trees in businesses)and wrap the tree in netting, but we do not flock.

·         Stands are $15 ($8 for the very small ones), but each year they can bring back the old stand and get a new one with their tree at no additional charge.

·         We will have wreaths, garlands, tree bags, living trees, rosemary trees, etc.

RAFFLE: None today.  FINK:  Next week is  last week's fink #711. Do you remember who you are?
