STARTERS: Prez Rick Koenig opened the 3,888th HB Kiwanis meeting.  The Men's Choir led God Bless America, Dick led the pledge and Merle gave the blessing.

GUESTS: Sergeant-at-Arms Earl introduced the guests:  Bob's friends Mike Miller and Keith Watts, Cathy's guest Joel Geffen, Judy's friend Pat Love, Larry's regular Maggie, Rick's friend Linda Hopkins.

 

BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES:  We sang via cell phone for Rick's mom.  Birthday boys Jack Belasco (11/15) and Les Thompson (11/19) were MIA.

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK/OTHER FINES:

Whit picked on guest Maggie and took a shot at some other guests.  Fink Rick caught Paula.  With all the chatter, there should have been more fines, but the Prez was kind.

·         11/22 and 11/23 - TREE LOT SET UP   - All day - Everyone come! Yvonne brings great chili.

·         11/25 Orientation for New Members at Backburner - 8:00 am - New members Pat, Joel, Keith, Mike & Maria!

·         11/26 - KIWANIS LUNCH AT TREE LOT - There will be blessing of the Trees.

·         11/28 Day after THANKSGIVING - CHRISTMAS TREE LOT OPENS -Keep time available on  your calendars to work a couple shifts per week from Thanksgiving to Christmas.  Contact Terry (376-2222) or Carol (372-2610) if you missed the sign-up sheet.

·         12/4  BOARD MEETING:  Caterers are Carol Lawson, Jerry Compton & Dan Marinelli

 

MISC OTHER:

·         11/23 Art Show at Sangria - Free - Noon til 8pm

·         11/27 Easy Reader Thanksgiving Dinner at Kiwanis Hall - Our Rick Hankus is running the kitchen.  He needs a few more cooked turkeys or hams. Prez Rick is also helping out.

·         12/3 Muscular Dystrophy Fundraiser - Bail out the Prez.

·         12/3  Friends of Library Members Book Sale 6 to 7:30

·         12/6  Friends of Library Public Book Sale -9:30-12:30

·         12/5 Hermosa Art Foundation Fundraiser at Gallery C

HEALTH UPDATE:  Ann is not feeling as well as she would like due to chemo treatments.  Call or drop her a note to wish her well. Keep her in your thoughts!  We miss you, Ann!

 

PRINTER/COPIER CARTRIDGES:  Bob announced that the Hermosa School District is collecting Ink Cartridges (printer or copier) as a fundraiser.  When  you use them up, bring them to the clubhouse.  There is a box for collecting them.

 HERMOSA VALLEY MATH CLINIC:  Teachers and students from the Hermosa Valley Math Clinic received a $1,000 check from Kiwanis.  It meets after school, 3 days a week, allows students to get their math homework done with teachers present to assist.  About 30 students participate at each meeting.

PROGRAM: Paul introduced speaker Salvation Army Captain Bill Finley.  The Redondo Beach office serves the beach cities and Lawndale.  They have apartments for mid-income senior, provide meals on wheels, food and clothing for the needy.  They have an Angel Tree at the Galleria (by Nordstom's door) for contributing Christmas toys (Key Club will be working here).  They will have bell ringers out but need more volunteers.  They also need Meals on Wheels volunteers.  They also have an adopt-a-family program for holiday food and gifts. Contributions are always welcome.  Call 318-2827 if you can help with any of these programs.

HAPPY/SADS: Howiee happy re crossing guard at PCH & Pier promoting tree lot; Sam happy re going to Philadelphia where Anne is participating in a conference and in the Philadelphia marathon; Larry sad his guest was hit up for a buck by Whit; Pat happy re Pete Tucker being sworn in at next City Council Meeting & reception afterwards at Fenners Fish Shack; Dick happy re hybrid new car; Earl sad the President can't remember his mom's phone number; Rick happy re the DCM and all the new members.

 

TERRY's REPORT:  Key Club will be very busy in December.  Tree Lot, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Feeding the Homeless, etc. 

TREE LOT: Shed arrived, fence comes tomorrow, tent on Friday.  Set-up Saturday & Sunday by Kiwanians - Put up Retail Shack, dig holes, put in poles, string lights, etc.  BE SURE TO COME HELP!  BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR TREE LOT SHIFTS.

RAFFLE: Yvonne had the winning ticket but since both she and Paul had already left, the Prez drew a card for her.  It was the 10 of spades.  Daily was $37, pot was $154 with 23 cards. FINK:  Next week is #711.
