STARTERS:  The Boy's (Men's?) Choir led God Bless America, Speaker Carla Merriman led the pledge (I hear she learned it at Rotary) and Merle prayed for guidance in these difficult times we are living through.

     

GUESTS: Rick K brought his son Derek, Alicia brought her friend Brian Sullivan, Jerry brought his good friend Terry Nannes, Len brought his good friend April Smith, and Scott brought long time friend C. A. Meyers.  Lt.Gov. Sangeeta came through briefly but couldn't stay.

BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES: None.

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Whit caught Jerry, Terry, April and Paul A.  Paul A masqueraded as the fink and caught most folks, including Whit and his wife Yvonne.  (I think someone claimed he was a fraudulent fink).

·         3/9        51st Annual Sand & Strand Run - 6am if you can      help with registration, etc.

·         3/11      TriCities Coordinating Council Meeting in R.B. with DA Cooley - Call Cathy McC if you want to go.

·         3/14     Decorate St. Pat's float at Jerry's house - 3:30pm

·         3/15    St. Patricks Day Parade.  Be there and march/ride in the parade (friends/family welcome to participate too).

·         3/20    Interclub at Riviera Village (Legacy Restaurant) - at 12:00 - Be sure to sign up.

·         3/22    HB Ed Foundation Party - Bob McE has tickets

·         3/26    Special Lunch Program - South Bay Wildlife Rehabilitation Center - bringing animals

·         3/28    Easter Seals Whale Watching - Call Rick K if you want to go with them.

·         3/29     Total K Day - Rick Hankus in charge.  Co-chairs are Terry and Howiee.  We will be planting spring bulbs on the greenbelt and Noble Park after pancake breakfast.

·         4/1       Brotherhood Luncheon at the Torrance Marriott Hotel. Speaker is Torrance Fire Chief who worked at Ground Zero in New York.

·         4/5      Circle K Installation - 6:00 Kiwanis Hall

·         5/17    District Interclub in Las Vegas - Call Tony for details.

PROGRAM:  Carla Merriman, Executive Director of the HB Chamber of Commerce told about the new and expanded Visitors Bureau Marketing Plan to bring more visitors to HB.  Will prepare brochure, increase advertising in newspapers, have a public relations campaign to get features in newspaper travel sections and magazines.  Want to promote hotels, restaurants, retail stores to increase hotel and sales taxes to help the City budget.  They will be having the usual 2 fiestas on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

                     

HAPPY/SADS:  Bruce was so happy he told a terrible joke; Whit sad Anne is still in the hospital; Howiee so sad he told a joke; Dallas proud that we hosted Sons & Daughters going to Viet Nam where their father were killed, also happy/sad? re Dorothy going to Caribbean tomorrow; Greg happy he acquired a custom cabinet/furniture business; Alicia happy to be here, sad had to leave early, happy to thank Pablo for setting up Valentine's Day function at her restaurant; Sam sad re hours cut at El Camino, happy to see Alicia and all our guests today; Jean elated that Taylor Lombardo was Student of the Month at Hermosa Valley and will be honored at Rotary Meeting; Terry happy to be taking a good group of Key Clubbers to Ontario for convention (sad that she'll miss all the St.Pat's day festivities); Cathy happy re trip to Sedona (notwithstanding foul weather), sad re bullet riddled Kiwanis sign in Sedona, happy/sad re using Kiwanis truck; Tony happy re ribs for lunch and lots of fines.

ST. PAT'S DAY FESTIVITIES:  Be sure to come out to help decorate the float (3/14) and ride in the parade (3/15).  If you haven't done it before especially, it's a blast!!

RAFFLE:  Terry Bose had the winning ticket and went for the $556 pot (24 cards), but drew the 9 of spades.
