PROGRAM: Paula Packwood who along with our own Greg Wyatt produced a Video: “The Nursing Shortage” which will be shown Wed 2/5/03 at Hermosa Community Center at 7PM. She described the problem as follows: In CA we need 136K Nurses today. At the present rate in 8 Yrs we will need ½ million. The result is a reduction of service, $4.5 million shortfall due to increased use of temp nurses, and reduction of quality care. Major cause is lack of training programs, facilities and funding. The worldwide impact is many foreign nurses are coming to US thus leaving a shortage in their home countries such as the Philippines, Ireland, Africa and Australia. See the video presentation for better insight.
