We lost our good friend J. W. HORD last Friday.  Some of the Kiwanian remarks today:

Terry said it best:  What I know about J.W. from one hour once a week.  J.W. smiled from his eyes.  The twinkle started in the eyes and spread down to his mouth.  J.W. was proud to be a Marine.  J.W. was our Sergeant-at-Arms.  J.W. loved and cared for his wife Naomi.  J.W. got a "kick" out of the "young guy, Paul Amarillas".  J.W. called me "girl".  J.W. taught high school for a zillion years and he still cared about the kids.  J.W. was a Gentleman, something about his generation.  J.W. had a firm, strong handshake, but a bad hip.  J.W. once told me "I was just what this old club needed."  J.W. had a gravely voice, probably from talking to all those kids for a zillion years.  J.W. had cataract surgery and had 20/20 vision.  J.W. liked me and I liked him.  J.W., like most Veterans, had a hearing loss.  Talk into his left ear.  J. W. had a little dog who bossed him around.  J. W. sat with the good guys at our meetings.  J.W. told me that his hip replacement was a "silly little operation" and that he would be back at our meeting in a couple of weeks.  He left that day wearing a jester's hat!  I'll miss J.W. more than one hour, every week.  I'm grateful for the time we did have.

HAPPY/SADS: Everyone was sad to lose our wonderful friend J.W., but happy that we were privileged to know him. We will all miss him!!!

Other Happy/Sads were the following:

Howard happy he saw Jim Fucile at IHOP and that he seemed to be doing OK.  Christine was happy to be back.  Cathy happy Dick's home, but sad he's working so hard.  Nick happy he hired an assistant.  Jean happy re anniversary song.  Becca happy Christine's back and happy she's back.  Sam happy re Port Washington visit last week--Went to Kiwanis meeting there and thinks we're a better club.  Rick K glad Christine back.  Greg W happy he got to shoot a short documentary with a long time friend.  Dan M. happy he will be working the Superbowl.  Greg R happy Christine back.  Joe happy that he, Dr. Barr & Dr. Fish visited Jim Fucile last week- he seems to be feeling better.  Judy reminded us to enjoy every day with our friends.  Whit was just sad.  Merle commented on what wonderful people we have in this club.  Dallas sad that Dorothy broke her other foot yesterday at Disneyland.  Bob happy re Superbowl party and Christine back.  Len happy re Christine back.

Cathy:  Discussions re education from his history as a teacher, etc.  I'll miss his kiss.

Nick:  Fun chats re St. Louis

Yvonne:  JW always asked - "Well, did you leave that troublemaker at home?"

Jean:  He's up there giving someone else heck now.

Sam:  Will miss his good humor and gruff exterior. He was a very consciencious Sgt. At Arms

Greg W.:  Hopes JW isn't "behaving himself" up there.

Dan:  Remembers bringing track and field souvenirs from Stanford

Greg R:  Remembers JW's patience while Greg "got around" to fix-up chores.

Joe:  Planned to go visit him today.  Didn't get the e-mail message.

Judy:  Remembers talks about their respective heart conditions.

Whit:  We're really going to miss him.

Merle:  JW would always ask - "How's Marge"

Dallas:  Will miss a great friend.  Remembered his hard work unloading Christmas trees in the rain.

Bob:  Always looked forward to JW's "hello".  He made us all feel like his friend.

Harry:  Remembers the coffee clatch where he first met JW and told him to join Kiwanis.  He will miss his good friend.

Carol:  Remembered how JW wouldn't hear of letting "the girls" fix his leaky Christmas tree stand.

Tony:  His voice will echo in this hall forever.

RAFFLE:  Howiee had ticket but drew the King of Clubs. Pot  $425, daily take  $45,  31 cards.  FINK is 848.

Do Good, Have Fun, Hail Kiwanis
