STARTERS:  We all sang the patriotic song, Bob M led the pledge and Merle prayed.

BIRTHDAYS: At the request of our guest speaker (Sheri Schrier) we sang Happy Birthday.

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Whit caught JW and Greg W. The fink was Rick K but he left early. Spin the wheel next week.

GUESTS: Deborah Cramer is having her 3rd visit

TREE LOT: Paul announced that 200 trees were left over and the city mulched them for the green belt. Final accounting TBD but money raised will be close to last year

EASTER SEALS PARTY: Joe C thanks everybody for the successful lunch and specifically Dano (Santa Claus), Rick, Dick M and Marie. To thank us Joe made Margaritas

ROSE BOWL FLOAT: Terry reported that the Key Club kids worked on the Kiwanis Float. She showed pictures. She also reported about the successful caroling done by 70 kids.

Badge: Les didn’t have his but spun the wheel and Earl Paid.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

·         1/9/03 - Next Board Meeting - Caterers will be Tony, Dianne and Jean Lombardo and Sam Abrams.  (Note: this is the 2nd Thursday of the month.

·         Orientation for Deborah Cramer at Ocean Dinner 8:30 AM, Jan 13

·         DCM Jan 13 evening

·         Interclub at LAX will be Jan 23 or 30th.

GREG WYATT described his TV special regarding the nursing shortage. It will be previewed at the HB Community Center Wed Feb 5.

 

 

 

 

PROGRAM: Happy Hats for Kids.

Sheri Shrier and Husband Gene talked about their program that distributes hats to kids in hospitals, siblings, parents, docs and nurses. Over 250K hats given out so far. Their goal is ease kids burden thru the fun of hats. The hats are made by prisoners but the material has to be purchased. Their new emphasis is the Hero Hat Program  which is a book by Gene, a hero hat (on Gene and Sheri) and a crayon pack. They hope to distribute 2 million Hero Hats. More on their web site:

HAPPY/SADS: Bruce H for funny hat; Witt S for having been in Hospital (Pneumonia) H he got out after 4 days;  Terry S for Witt, H New Year, H 2 New Grandkids coming, H just to be here; Cathy H tree lot over, 7 bad checks only 1 still open, S Dick out of town for a week, H don’t cook for a week S for wayward cousin (traffic problems); Nick H engaged (only $1 happy); Paul H Aztec donated their fees for tree lot (over 4$K), Sam S death of mother  H found from his Father his 1954 Kiwanis Pin; Les H Earl paid his fine; Bob M H tree lot went so well (wants to see more help next year from Kiwanians); Bob reports that Casner will donate 30$K thru Dallas; Tony S Witt’s cell phone went off H New Year, H engagement of Nick S Low turn out today.

RAFFLE: Cathy M had the lucky ticket, but drew the 7 of hearts.  Pot is about $400 with 32 cards.
