PROGRAM: Hermosa Beach Fire Chief Russ Tingley told a corny joke then reported on the Fire Department.  He's been here 3 years (1st fire here was at the Bose's house), lives in Upland (long commute), in fire service for 28 years. The paramedic program has flourished and HB has more paramedic than fire calls.  Trauma patients go to Harbor/UCLA which is only trauma center nearby.  Funding helped by bond issue and federal grant.  HB is the smallest force in the largest populated county, but has best response time in county (3 min).  Chief participates in Harbor/UCLA Alliance, So Bay Fire Assn, Calif. Fire Chiefs Assn.  We cooperate with Manhattan, Redondo and El Segundo for primary response and also in state wide Master Mutual Aid Program.  He is looking for funding to increase staffing.  We have about 1600 calls per year.  Chief said speed bumps also slow down fire engines.  OK only if not in his way.
