STARTERS:  Doris was left without assistance in leading the patriotic song, the Builders Club ladies led the pledge and Rev. Paul Lawson gave the blessing (altho Paul A. tried to interlope).

GUESTS: Builders Club members Kristen Baeserman and Christine Frederiks, Deborah's friend Sabrina Johnson, Scott and Dano's friend Teri Lee, Larry significant other Maggie Moir.

BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES: We sang happy birthday to ourselves for the Club's 77th birthday and happy anniversary to Cary for his 19th anniversary.

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Substitute drink dispensers Earl, Colleen and Paul A could only nail the late banker, Doug Jenkins.  Harry Smith was the fink and got his good friends Terry, Jean, Larry and Doug.

SPECIAL UPCOMING LUNCH PROGRAM:

3/26 - South Bay Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be making a presentation including bringing several animals with them such as falcons, hawks, owls, etc.  Mark your calendars for a special guest day - - what about your kids, grandkids, spouses, friends, membership prospects, etc.? 

THE DINING ROOM - Play at the Community Center produced by Maggie Moir.  Performances 3/2 & 3/9 at 7PM and 3/4, 3/5, 3/11 & 3/12 at 8PM.  For more info call 376-1297.  See review in today's Daily Breeze!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

·         Anna Belchee is home from the hospital.  Says thanks for card and flowers.

·         Whit's wife Anne is in the hospital

·         SHARE program last Saturday went fine tho Ann U was sick.  Special thanks to Cathy McC for getting truck.

·         Div. 19 contribution to Childrens Miracle Network.  We are giving $500 and hope to see Lt.Gov. Larry get a haircut.

·         Chamber of Commerce fiestas have been approved.

·         School board facing budget deficits.  Go to the Ed Foundation party or make a contribution if you can.

PROGRAM: Carmen Apelgren, Community Relations specialist at the Braille Institute gave an inspiring talk re the capabilities of vision impaired people and the services provided by the Braille Institute.  Born with retinitis pigmentosis, she started life full of energy and while somewhat sighted had a great career as a singer, dancer, director, actress in little theatre.  Now she is technical advisor to Hollywood, teaching tv/movie people how to portray realistically the visually impaired.  She also teaches the blind to dance.  The Braille Institute teaches clients to experience the joys of life, including many classes, an extensive library, talking books, Braille publications (especially kids books).  They try to instill a "yes, I can" attitude and support equipment purchases for employer who hire their clients. 

HAPPY/SADS:Dano happy(?) re Beach Reporter article, happy re Deborah's donation of computer, happy re fundraiser results; Paul A happy re refund from Edison (tree lot); Joe happy re going to Loreto for 10 days; Dallas happy Dorothy gone this weekend, then going on Caribbean cruise; Larry happy to be back after visiting granddaughter in Indiana, happy Maggie here; Scott happy re visit to his dad (Seymour Bilowitz), happy re his guest Teri; Sam happy re Terry here (sorry about the spill), sad re school budget cuts (may cut his hours at El Camino College); Jean happy Builder Club ladies here and other guests; Dianne happy re Builders Club bake sale (thanks to Rick contributing googoo(?) bars, brownies and cookies; Bruce happy re tickets to THE DINING ROOM - he understands that people with class go to the "theatre"; Harry happy re new great granddaughter in Oregon (congrats, Harry!); Tony happy re attendance, lots of fines today and Builders Club here.

RAFFLE:  Bob McE had the winning ticket and went for the $545 pot (26 cards), but drew the 9 of hearts.
