STARTERS: Doris
was still on vacation so the men's choir led us a capella in God Bless
America, visiting scholarship recipient Braydon Holtzinger led the pledge and
Father Earl gave the blessing. GUESTS: One guest today was Humanities Scholarship recipient Braydon Holtzinger (he's going to UC Berkeley to study neuro science, molecular biology and international relations). He came today to thank us for the scholarship. Other guests were Dr. Francine Inez from RHE Kiwanis and Hope for Kids, Alice Feys (wife of Earl), Phil Jacobson (neighbor of Howiee) and Paula Wright (about to become new member). BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES: We sang to birthday boy Dan Martinelli (8/10 - 38yrs - oh, do you remember being so young?). DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Everyone was so glad to see Whit back that everyone shook his hand. No fink today. Scholarship Recipient: Mrs. Feys:

Hope For Kids Benefit Concert: RHE Kiwanis visitor Dr. Francie announced the concert on 8/23, from 7-9pm at the Norris Theater. Tickets are $25.00. "Gravity" Trio, Faith Rivera, etc are performing. Call (310) 346-3908 for reservation. Proceed to benefit after school programs for disadvantaged children and families. |
Ohana Island Expo 2003 at The
Hollywood Park Casino, Sat-Sun, 8/30-31, 12 noon to 2am. Island vendors,
food, dancing, music, gaming tables. Dano Miller is putting on this event

PROGRAM: Speakers today were Mary Sercu and Susan Sanchez from Beach cities One-Stop Business and Employment Center. They are a non-profit organization supported by the City of Redondo Beach and other government grants. They are a partnership of business, education, training, local government and non-profit organizations working together to assist businesses with their employment needs. They prescreen candidates, recruit, interview, in some cases provide financial assistance for on-the-job training of new hires and/or training of existing employees. They can provide information regarding hiring tax credits. They offer classes such as interview workshop, resume/cover letter workshop, MS Word and Excel and Internet workshops for job seekers. HAPPY/SAD DOLLARS: Joe happy he had the capsule at the last board meeting ($67) - 1st time in 30 years, also happy re thanks from Sister City for help with picnic (we also helped pay the additional air fare costs of the kids because of immigration delays); Howie happy his neighbor Phil was here and re Paula's orientation on Friday; Whit happy to be out of hospital (thanks for flowers and calls); Colleen sad re missing board meeting because of strep throat, but happy she made the Sister Cities picnic; Cathy happy Whit back, happy re picnic, happy re students and chaperons at her house; Charlie Cheatham happy to be officially a candidate for City Council (spin the wheel); Sam happy Whit back, guests here, thanks from Elaine Doerfling re help with Sister Cities picnic; Bob happy Judi here, sad she's soon going back to work, happy they're going to take Katie to Sonoma State this weekend then vacation for a week, happy Braydon not intimidated by us and happy re cleaning up leaves and putting them in front of the Rotary Hall; Harry said he worked for Edison Company not the Phone Company as reported last week; Carol happy re grandkids here this week; Tony happy re Braydon here and a neighbor babysitting Dillon while Tony's at today's meeting. |
