STARTERS:  The Women's Choir began with a ladylike rendition of Gold Bless America, the Builders Club ladies led the pledge and Poet Laureate Earl Feys sought spiritual guidance.

   

GUESTS:  Builders Club members Kristin Kim and Lauren Lantz were our visitors today. BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES: We sang to celebrate Earl's 3rd Anniversary of being appointed Secretary of HB Kiwanis.           

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Drink Dispenser Stand-Ins Larry Jackson and Bob McEachen caught volunteers Scott and Cary.  Stealth Fink Cathy McCurdy caught Chris, Bob C., Dallas, Ian, Deborah, Cary, and Terry.

MISC. ANNOUNCEMENTS:

ˇ         Thanks to caterers Bob and Judi McEachen for wonderful dinner at last week's Board Meeting.

ˇ         We were thanked for our contribution to the Surfer's Walk of Fame.

ˇ         MB Chamber Sand Dollar Charity Golf Tournament on May19 at Rolling Hills Country Club - Golfers call Christine for more info.

ˇ         Anne Whitaker still in hospital.  She's doing better and hoping to come home soon.

ˇ         Terry reported that the Key Club District Banquet last Friday was a success.  Our wonderful Key Club President Shawn Coleman won the award for the "Funniest President".

PROGRAM: Sergeant Tommy Thompson from the Hermosa Beach Police Department was introduced by Program Chair Rick Koenig. He discussed the proposed change from the El Segundo Communication Center to the Regional Communications Center.  This possible change, favored by Tommy and Police Chief is being considered by the City primarily because of technological changes and potential cost savings.

He also discussed the Officer Traffic Safety program funded by recent grants.  The Drive Smart, Walk Smart signs are available.  They are also conducting Bicycle and Skateboard Safety Programs and conducting a DUI awareness campaign.  The HBPD has been trained and will assist parents (and grandparents) with the correct installation and use of child car seats.

HAPPY/SADS: Rick K happy re news from Iraq, happy re restaurant job nearly done; Christine happy re signing up for Relay for Life Cancer Prevention at Aviation Park on 7/19; Cathy happy re dinner at Café Italian on Artesia (won at HB Telethon), happy re new table cloths bought on sale; Joe happy re tax man predicting refund, sad re not making any money; Sam happy re Circle K banquet last weekend, Sangeeta very appreciative of our support, 5 Kiwanis members present; Bruce happy that the moose is finally on the way (the inflatable needs to be replaced); Nick happy that the location for his wedding has been selected - Montecito Country Club - May 1, 2004 (we'll have to put on a bachelor party!); Jerry happy to see Tommy Thompson; Tony happy to see members Chris Jones, Ian Whitelaw, Nick Panino, Scott Bilowit who don't get a chance to come to many meeting, sad Dianne and Jean not here, sad re spring break next week.
