INVITATION:  All Hermosa Kiwanians are invited to a party for Joe and Marie Diaz to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary.  It will be at the Queen Mary - Queen's Salon - on October 6 at 6:30.  The address is 112 Queens Highway, Long beach. RSVP to Monica Frey (310) 546-8277.  The only gift requested is the pleasure of your company.

SPEAKER:  New Program Chairman Rick Koenig introduced our speaker, Juliana Lesher, who is the community donor recruiter for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.  The Hospital treats about 200,000 patients a year and is the No. 1 children's hospital west of the Mississippi.  They treat children for the whole spectrum of problems, many requiring blood transfusions.  They really need whole blood donors (takes 1/2 hour) and especially platelet donors (takes 2 hours).  If they don't have enough donors they have to buy blood from Red Cross ($240/pint for blood, $600/pint for platelets).  It's hard to find enough donors in many cases because of eligibility problems.  There are many health and travel restrictions that limits the eligibility pool.  Call her to set up an appointment if you can donate.

HAPPY/SADS: Sam H to turn the bell over to Tony; Yvonne H re party and H to receive the Golden Rocking Chair award as the outstanding Div. 19 Chairman; Earl happy re plaque; Greg S re being late; Becca H re flowers, bear and certificates given to her by Sam (she missed the installation); Cary S re missed installation and other events, but H re shooting 99 on tough golf course; Alicia S she doesn't make it to too many meetings, H re 32nd wedding anniversary; Cathy H re secretary's award, Hixons and great party, H re Yvonne's award, Alicia here and that Dick was de-installed as Lt.G.; Howard H re off to Provence for 3 weeks; Whit H re party and just happy; Rick K happy re party and fabulous work of the Lombardo family; Tony happy re helpers and sad Sam not behind the podium.  Ian played a dirge for Sam.
