Sam's Words of Wisdom: "Chi Dorme Non Peiglia Pesce.". Italian Proverb via Anne (He who is sleeping catches no fish! If you snooze, you lose!) FOR STARTERS: Recently returned from Italy Prez Sam opened the meeting, Girls Glee Club sang, Judi McE pledged and Merle prayed. No guests today, but LtG Dick was present. BIRTHDAYS: Joe G (17th), Carol (18th), Bud (18th), Earl (20th), Rick H (26th), Christine (27th), Dylan Lombardo (Saturday). The singing was loud and noisy. DRINK DISPENSER: Whit caught J.W. who protested loudly. Substitute FINK Yvonne only caught Len. HEALTH NEWS: Jim Fucile still doing ok. He would like cards, notes, calls, visitors (call first). Best times for visits are around 3pm on Tues or Thurs. Address is 1226 -6th St., Manhattan Beach. Phone is 374-5306. We miss you, Jim!! |

LORETO PICNIC: A great success!!. Joe thanked members for helping and bringing food. Special thanks to Marie for shopping, cooks J.W. and Earl, Mary Lou Weiss/Farmers Market for donating fruit and vegies. Kids visited San Diego Museums, zoo, Universal Studios. Joe received a fantastic award from Sister Cities for starting the exchange program in 1974. |
CORRESPONDENCE: Thank you's from several scholarship recipients, Mira Costa Grad Night, Band Boosters, Boy Scouts, Richstone. BADGES: They are here for Vera, Dan, Larry, Les, Colleen and Ann. SAD NEWS: Active Women's Club member Caroline Short passed away last weekend. Memorial at her house tomorrow (7/25) from 12-4 (SW corner of Strand at 18th). |

SPEAKER: Jackie LaBouff from Project Touch. Jackie took over as Executive Director of Project Touch 6 years ago (it was founded by Julie Feys in 1974). She's a long time Hermosa resident, married 44 years, 4 kids and many grandkids. Project Touch provides a variety of counseling services for young people including Wednesday night dinners (about 25 kids age 11 to 19), Alternative Classroom Experiences at RUHS, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Step Family Solutions. They receive major funding from BCHD and many local non-profits including Kiwanis, Womens Club, etc. She thanked the club for the financial support and many members for their personal help (Earl, Merle and Sam on the Board, Jean for helping with Lion King transportation, etc.) |
HAPPY/SADS: Merle happy re 60 years married to dear, patient Marjorie; Dick happy re Loreto picnic, new glasses program for Loreto kids thanks to group of optometrists and Thelma Greenwald contribution, Ocean Diner open for dinner; Whit just happy; Harry happy too; Dave happy going to Virgin Island for two weeks so lunches will be catered by Rick H and by Dano; Cary happy re school bond resolution; Earl happy to be back from China; Jeannie sad re broken foot and Dallas sad re broken window; Cathy happy re sister and family staying with her -they do dishes!; Tony happy re Dylan's 3rd birthday and trip to Disneyland; Dano gave 2 confused dollars - he'll explain next week; Sam happy to be back from Italy and to get spaghetti for lunch; Merle happy/sad? re Carol's haircut. |
