We sang, Colleen blushed, Jean grimaced and Greg hid. DRINK DISPENSER/FINK: Prez forgot to go after these fines. Maybe cuz he lost his bell? GUESTS: Scott brought friend Ross Plank who has a new business that services websites. Steve Delk was here for his last free lunch. JIM FUCILE - Would still like visitors (around 3pm on Tues/Thurs is best.) Call first - 374-5306 WHO'S GOT THE BELL? While the Chief of Police was speaking, someone stole the bell. Maybe Prez Tony thought law enforcement was enough -- he underestimated Kiwanian ingenuity. |

SPEAKER: Hermosa
Beach Police Chief Mike Lavin started out with a really bad lawyer joke
(following the lead of jokesters Dallas and Bruce). Mike grew up in Hermosa,
went to Hermosa View and Mira Costa and El Camino. At age 21 he got married and joined the force -- he's been here
ever since. Val Strasser was his
mentor and trained him well. 38 of 39
budgeted position on the force are filled.
It takes about a year to train a new officer and recruiting gets more
difficult all the time. The
department consists of uniformed patrol, detectives, motorcycles, traffic
enforcement, a small jail, parking enforcement, animal control. They work with regional task forces on
narcotics, car thefts and other major crimes. Identity theft is rampant.
Watch your stuff?? |
