SPEAKER: City Councilman/Mayor Pro Tem Michael Keegan provided us with a brief State of the City update. The TYCO ocean cable project is nearly complete and a nice source of revenue. Library withdrawal issue still being considered (will be a topic at 11/26 meeting). Completion of the pier project will be going forward in the spring (guard tower and restroom). The McPherson oil litigation will probably continue another five years. We appear to have been successful in slowing down the Redondo Heart of the City impact on our city. We will be resurfacing a number of streets in the city (Hillcrest, Rhodes, 18th, Myrtle, etc.). A drug store is being considered for the Vasek Polak space on PCH. The Beach House has been very successful and hotels are a good source of tax revenue for the city (it was featured in LA Time Travel Section last Sunday). The AT&T cell antenna will probably not go on Community Center - maybe on a new community sign out front |
