NEW CANS: Since IDD goal has been met (see below), we will be passing the can for Pediatric Trauma, the major emphasis of Cal-Nev-Ha. EARL'S ART EXHIBIT: Artwork by Earl Feys is on display at the El Camino College Library thru the end of May. Go see it!! Open from 9am to 9pm. |

FOR STARTERS: The Women's Chorus led the song, Colleen Hartley led the pledge and Merle prayed. Only Guest today was Melissa from the Beach Cities Health District (her second free lunch). Be sure to meet her--she appears to be on the verge of becoming a new member. |
FIESTA HOT DOG BOOTH: Instead of Wine Booth, we will have a Hot Dog Booth in the usual Rotary location. (Rotary has Wine Booth) Please sign up to work a shift or part of a shift. This is a great opportunity to participate in a community event and socialize with fellow Kiwanians. Rick Koenig and Tony Lombardo are in charge. |

GOVERNOR'S VISIT: Thanks to members who helped out with the Governor's Visit: Yvonne, Paul, Terry, Cathy, Bob, Judi, Joe, Dan, Linda, Jeannie, Tony and Anne. It was a big success!! AWARDS: Congratulations to Paul and Yvonne Amarillas for their Hixon Fellow Awards, to Cathy McCurdy for her Dunlop Fellow Award, and to Terry and Fred Bose for their Distinguished Service Award. |
IMPRESS YOUR PRESIDENT: At the Governor's Visit we paid for a Dunlop Fellow Award to be given to a member to be determined. The award will be presented at the Cal-Nev-Ha convention in Ontario in August. If you haven't done so yet, impress your President (Sam, the man, Abrams) and maybe you, too, can be a winner! IDD : Kiwanis Int'l has raised $80 Million for UNESCO to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disease world wide. |

IMPROVING NEWS: Jim Fucile is at Little Company of Mary Ambulatory Unit at BCHD (on Prospect) - Room 344. He would like visitors, but don't stay too long. Let him know he's in our prayers. GET WELL, JIM. THANK-YOU's: We received thank-you notes from Kings and Clowns Shakespeare and Sister Cities Association for our contributions. SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships this year will total $28,600 distributed to 48 individuals (plus an additional $45,000 for continuing scholarships). The scholarships will be awarded at various events, including the Key Club Banquet, the Coordinating Council lunch in June, and at the MCHS and RUHS scholarship events. Way to go Kiwanians! |

SPEAKER: Barbara Haney, Director of Community
Development for Social Vocational Services, Inc. spoke to us re this
organization and People First, which serve adults with developmental
disabilities. People First teaches
skills in self advocacy, provides opportunities for their clients to meet
people, make friends, and acquire skills.
They also learn leadership and speaking skills. They are looking for sponsorships for
people to attend the next International Conference at Disneyland. They also endeavor to find real work
experience for their clients. See their
