FOR STARTERS:  Prez-Elect Tony found out why the Prez needs a bell, but finally got the meeting started with the Men's Choir singing the patriotic song, Carol led the pledge and Lt.Gov. Dick McCurdy gave the invocation.  Guests today were John Gutierrez (friend of Dano) and Robin Moore (friend of Judy Garland)

BIRTHDAYS:  Claude (7/13) and Rick K (7/16). We sang enthusiastically.

DRINK DISPENSER:  Whit caught Cary and Paul Lawson, who also got caught for being late.   

FINK Rick Koenig only caught Paul L, but Rick also got fined $3 for having his cell phone ring.

HEALTH NEWS:  Jim Fucile says he's walking up and down steps now.  Says "I'm hanging in there and looking for new members". He would like cards, notes, calls, visitors (call first).  Best times for visits are around 3pm on Tues or Thurs.  Address is 1226 -6th St., Manhattan Beach.  Phone is 374-5306.  We miss you, Jim!!

·         7/10   School Board Meeting - Bond Measure is the topic.

·         7/12   Golf at the Marriott  at 3:00 with Dano - call Dano for details.

·         7/15   DCM - HB Kiwanis Hall - Mark your calendar

·         7/17   Kiwanis/Sister City - Loreto Picnic in the Park - Come at 10:30 to help set up-12:00 for lunch.  Bring a salad or a dessert.  Call Marie Diaz re what to bring (she lives with Joe at 379-1421).  Talk to Joe to volunteer for various chores.  Be there!!

·         7/28   K-Family Picnic - Columbia Park in Torrance,       1-5pm - Announced by Sangeeta (Circle K Metro LtG)

·         8/15-18 CALNEVHA CONVENTION in glorious  nearby downtown Ontario.  Great chance to attend seminars and check out a convention close to home.

·         Aug.  Hall Work Party to be announced

·         9/21  American Heart Walk - Our Key Club is trying to raise $1000 - Terry Bose has pledge sheets.

·         9/22 City Picnic - Clark Field - 12 noon-4pm - Jean Lombardo is in charge and looking for volunteers to help.

 

 

WATCH YOUR WALLETS:  Is this an omen?  Prez-Elect Tony hit members for fines for cell phones, badges, and being late in addition to the usual drink dispenser and fink hits.  Guess he's going to try to make us behave. :)

SPEAKER: Bob Holmes, a former Manhattan Beach Councilman (12 years), today was representing Friends of South Bay Youth Project.  SBYP was started in 1975 and "Friends of" is a  fundraising entity formed to support it.  SBYP serves El Segundo, Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo, PV Penn. and Lomita.  It has 70 therapists for child and/or family counseling for school problems, adolescent issues, communication issues, parent education and referral services re youth activities, drug and alcohol problems, crisis intervention, delinquency problems, etc.  They also provide Positive Alternative Activities for Youth like Late Night Sports, Friday Night Dances and Community Activities.  Web Site www.redondo.org/sbyp or call (310) 372-7724 for more info.

HAPPY/SADS: Rick K was happy his twin sons graduated from H.S. - One got new tires for his truck and the other went to Cancun.  Both are firemen in training.  Cathy happy re the school board bond matter, sad she missed Nick when he stopped by, happy that Judy's guest Robin was here and happy re last week's round table at Ocean Diner.  Chris Jones happy that his construction project is about half way done.  Jean happy re Lombardo family trips to New Orleans (Kiwanis Convention) and Kansas City (Women's Club Convention) and happy re Taylor's awards.  Terry happy re great family July 4 party (3 kegger) and her granddaughter took her first steps.  Jack happy re Bastille Day.  Wear your tricolor to help the French celebrate.  (Welcome back, Jack!!).  Greg happy his repaired Jeep got  "jeepster" Bruce's approval.  Harry happy his picture was in last week's bulletin (he tried to pay a fine-- try again this week, Harry).  Bob happy Judy here and sad only got IOU from Tony for his fine.  Dick happy in-laws staying with them til 9/1, sad Cathy's dog still hates him, happy his arteries checked out ok.  Tony happy we treated him ok today and happy re aunt & uncle's 50th Anniversary.

DO GOOD - HAVE FUN

RAFFLE:  Bruce B. had the winning ticket but drew the 3 of diamonds.  He thought for sure he'd rake in the dough. Today it was $100 for the day or $895 for the joker.  Only 5 cards left!! Next meeting with a drawing with be on 7/24.
