Prez Mike called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m.

 

Everyone sang the Patriotic Song – beautifully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lunch was a Mexican treat – some new & different dishes.

The “Famous” Kiwanis Choir (?) sang

Kiwanis Events:

 

1        Board Meeting tomorrow (5/1) night 6:30 p.m.; caterers are Mike, Nick, Joanne, and Linda.  Howie disclosed the Secret of the Brown Box – every member’s name is in the box and a drawing for cash is held at end of each Board meeting. Winner MUST be present to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2        Memorial Day Beer Garden sign-up sheet passed around.

3        Div. 19 Prayer Breakfast Thursday (5/1) 7:30 a.m. in Carson

4        PBJ sandwich preparation after lunch today.

 

 

 

Community Events:

 

1        Renaissance Fair (HB) – several members reported on the event held last weekend- “great” event; good rides, shows, and vendors; very hot; low turnout; will do again next year in February; Circle K & Builders Club helped.

2        Earl reminded us of Project Touch’s play tonight at Hermosa Playhouse.

3        Cathy announced the Tri-City Sister City event Saturday (5/3) noon – 3 p.m. at Mucho Restaurant – 930 Manhattan Ave in M. B.

4        Amy mentioned BIG SUNDAY coming up where charities do “good deeds” for the community.

5        Mike mentioned his Mid-term R. E. exam at his house Saturday!!!!!

Program: 

            Joni introduced Charlotte Lesser

of the South Bay Youth Project

 

            Since 1975, the South Bay Youth Project of 11 cities      supports credentialed professionals who help families           with children who are “acting out”.   Schools, courts, or    self-referrals refer clients.  Over 400 Hermosa        families           have been helped and over 1000 families in Manhattan Beach

            have been helped.

 

            Beside extensive counseling, SBYP hosts a tri-city dance one Friday per        month that is safe and drug/alcohol free, 14 drug/alcohol testing sites, 12-         Step program for youth, Kids 1st –for divorcing parents, youth leadership     programs, couples counseling, parenting classes, and late night sports –             basketball for youth up to 25 played at night to keep them off the street            and out of trouble.

 

            Fundraiser scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2008, 7 p.m. at Torrance      Cultural Arts Center.  Entertainment by comedian Bill Engvall.  Tickets $50.  Call (310) 781-7171.
