STARTERS: Prez Rick opened today's very rowdy meeting.  Dano & Paul led an animated God Bless America, Past Lt.Gov. Dick led the pledge and Merle prayed.  Rick got his gavel back frozen in a big block of ice.

GUESTS:  Pat brought our good friend Corinne Ybarra, Dick brought Parras Builders Clubbers Tony Cramer (Jeannie's son) and Marty Ashak. It was also great to see members Vera Deutch and Alicia Costa at today's meeting.

BIRTHDAYS/ANNIVERSARIES:  We sang for Dr. Barr's 89th and Sam's ? Birthdays.  Sam said it "brought tears to my eyes".  Dr. Barr was speechless.  We also sang for Elsie Rafter's 90th Birthday this weekend.

DRINK DISPENSER/FINK/OTHER FINES: Whit caught Dick and Anna (who put up a fight).  Fink Greg R. caught Carla, Linda, Terry, Sam, Deborah, Rick, Greg W and Bob McE.  Sam proclaimed himself winner of the "Stupidity Award" because he knew Greg was the Fink, but still missed shaking his hand.

Let Election Committee (Earl Feys) know if you would like to be added to the slate.

PROGRAM: Jim Sullivan, aka "Jimmy the Kid" was our speaker today.  He's a Senior at Loyola Marymount and has been doing some camera work for Adelphia.  He's looking forward to a career in television writing and production.  He grew up in the South Bay (he went to Parras Middle School).  He noticed that there was a bit of a "Generation Gap" between him and most of the Kiwanians (he's 23), so he volunteered for questions from the floor about today's youth.  He said with the exception of a few activists, more young people are generally disenchanted with politics.  Young guys who wear baggy pants that are so low their underwear shows are just looking for attention or rebelling (he doesn't wear that style).  He said Gen "X" kids (born before 1982) want to find satisfying work & the money will follow; Gen "Y" seems more materialistic (but they're younger).  He sees the future as generally promising.  He said we get sex, violence and obscenity on TV because that's what sells advertising.  He's hoping to write/produce TV shows aimed at the male 18-34 demographic (chicks & trucks with feelings).  He thinks Nielson ratings need to go.

HAPPY/SADS: Howie happy our St.Pat's float made the front page of the Beach Reporter, but sad he was on the "other side", happy he has the answer to Sam's last week's question - "13".  Paul sad he was on the right side of the float but must have been leaning down getting "refreshments"; Cathy sad she was also on the "other side", happy she's still not smoking, happy/sad that son Shea is moving out (he wants to borrow the Kiwanis truck!).  Pat happy Corinne and Vera here, sad she didn't make it to Total K; Terry happy Vera here, happy for Dr. Barr's birthday, happy Total K a success (Fred painted the door), happy Builders Club kids here; Yvonne happy Corinne here, happy to be part of the kitchen cleaning crew; Sam sad re also on the "other side", sad re running out of questions, happy re great rendition of Happy Birthday; Nick happy/sad re bachelor party in Vegas this weekend, happy his assistant gave notice, but then came back; Joanne happy re Tony and Marty here -- thanks for landscaping work, happy for her accountant (vacation now in planning), happy for Paul's birthday; Whit just happy; Dick happy for Cathy's 21 days, happy re Builders here, happy to see Corinne; Jeannie happy re Corinne, happy re new business location (needs office equipment), happy son here; Dallas happy we wasn't on the float at all, happy re hall clean-up; Mike happy he'll be doorman at P.S.
