PROGRAM:  The City of Hermosa Beach bailed out our program chairman today by sending the Public Works Department:  Mike Flaherty, Rick Morgan and Rhea Punneo.  Rick is new to the City of Hermosa, but has 25 years of experience with the City of L.A. and another 10 years with the City of Malibu.  They are continuing to work on street repair, sewer repair, and responding to hundreds of requests from residents.  Reduced funding may slow the capital improvements work, but they are trying to work it out.  They completed Valley Park and are nearly finished improving and beautifying the walkways at the Community Center.  The hiring freeze has reduced the department so that it's lean and mean, but experienced and capable people are still getting the work done.  The County is sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste collection at Clark Stadium on January 24.

HAPPY/SADS: Greg W. happy re 2 pins removed from his friend's toes; Greg R sad Greg W has a girlfriend who can't run away, happy re his daughter getting married (a good guy who even has a job, ha!); Harry happy re visit from Jeannie Blankenship (Austin's widow) - she sent greetings to the Club members; Rick B sad re Larry Jackson not here cuz he's not feeling well; Linda Hopkins happy re finding therapy dogs to take to senior nursing homes; Howiee happy re salad dressings on the table (pink, white & yellow bottles) so we can dress our own salads; Bob happy that it's January 14 and he's driving his car with the top down (quite a change for a boy from Michigan); Pat happy to see the Public Works department here today; Sam happy to have a good group attending today, sad/happy? that Terry isn't here to tell him what to say; Rick Morgan happy to be working for the City of Hermosa Beach; Rick K happy re sign-ups for the various events and team work of our club.  Although he called it an announcement instead of a happy dollar, Mike Miller said he's going to the North Shore of Oahu next week to celebrate his cousin's 40th birthday.
