STARTERS: Prez Rick opened the meeting in honor of Harry Smith, who passed away on Monday, the Men's Choir led a rousing a capella rendition of God Bless America for Harry and Merle led us in prayer, especially remembering the blessing of knowing Harry. GUESTS: Pat brought husband Chris Love and in-laws Dorothy Love Gooden and Laurence Gooden, the McCurdys brought son Shea. Happily Larry Jackson was back and brought Maggie Moir and Monique Noriega. Susan Burden from Beach Cities Health District was also here. She will be speaking at a future meeting. Pat and Family: Dan's baaaack!

PROGRAM: David Markham, the "Miracle Man" was our entertaining program today. He started with whips and newspapers -
Greg even volunteered to hold a newspaper and brave the lash. He then gave a rundown on an idea for a
"Circus Murder Mystery" fundraiser. I took notes if you want more detail. He then sterilized his swords and swallowed them - a short one,
a medium length one and then a verrrry long one - ouch! Terry checked them out a said they were
real and solid. Oh my! He is also on a Carnival show on HBO. Watch for listing. Sword Swallower: Dallas's Con Job: SPONSORED YOUTH MISC: Parras Builders collecting men's pants (size 32-40) for Wilmington Mission - bring to Hall. HAPPY/SADS: Everyone was happy/sad about Harry. Some comments and other happy/sads: Dan happy to be back after 9 weeks doing reality show with NASCAR drivers - Show begins 5/14 at 10pm on FXN(?); Dano sad for loss of Harry; Dallas hopes Harry is having a good time; Judi happy to be back and happy about 30th anniversary trip to Maui; Earl sad re Harry and sad 2 voters voted for 6 of possible 4 candidates; Pat happy her husband and in-laws here and happy Corinne doing okay; Greg gave "goodbye" dollar for Harry; Sam said Harry always an inspiration around here - always involved and wanting to work; Whit very sad for Harry; Joe remembered Harry and wife Evelyn picking up cans in a special trailer and giving the money to Kiwanis; Dick gave thanks for Harry's life - Harry was always positive and never complained; Nick sad for Harry, but happy he's getting married this weekend and then going to Italy for 2 weeks; Terry happy for Nick, happy Pat's family here, sad for loss of Harry - "He made me happy"; Larry happy to be recovered and back - said Harry was "Promoted to Glory"; Bob happy re 30 years of marriage and reminded us about contributions to the Kiwanis Foundation Memorial Fund in Harry's honor; Joel - "Harry was an inspiration and a role model"; Greg sad that Nick is going to spend all that money to go to Italy and not see the scenery; Yvonne - "I'll miss him"; Linda sad to lose Harry; Joanne - "Harry touched and inspired us - He's still in the next room or around the corner"; Cathy - "Harry was always here, she alway got a kiss - he was so positive". Happy re Kiwanis help for Sister Cities and honoring Jack; Rick - "We will all miss him - he's off to glory but his leaving is sad. He was an inspiration to all". Rick happy Jackson back and happy the McCurdys are finally sitting together again. |
